Abstract

The emergence and formation of the field of biomedical sciences in Argentina constitutes a complex process whose analysis, despite its significance, is in its infancy. This work is part of that general program, which is clearly beyond our scope. We will focus here on a specific but significant event in this process: the election of Bernardo Houssay (1887-1971) as the head of the Chair of Physiology at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires.
