Abstract

In 1935 Neurath published a critical study of Popper’s Logik der Forschung under the title of «Pseudorationalism of Falsification». In our paper some of the critical elements, which Neurath presents in his study and which leads him to qualify the falsificationist methodology as pseudorational, are analyzed. It is also evaluated the alternative that Neurath offers to Popper’s image of science: encyclopedia versus system. And it is pointed out that the root of Neurath’s critiques is located in the radical divergence between both authors about what is meant by the «philosophical understanding of science» whose elaboration constitutes the central task of the Vienna Circle.
