Abstract

This article is focused on the history of the reception of psychoanalysis in Argentina before its institutionalization in 1942, particularly on the way in which it was received in medical and especially in psychiatric circles. The paper also tries to establish the connections between the peculiarities of the institutionalization of psychoanalysis in Argentina and political conditions in the country during the late 1930's and early 1940's. In this sense, it delves into the impact that existing political conditions had on the early development of psychoanalysis as a scientific field.
