This paper argues that in Argentina, the lack of public awareness about what science is, what it's for, and how to use it has led to a reduction in research support, the disintegration of institutions, the emigration of young researchers, and insurmountable difficulties for established researchers. From this standpoint, the paper advocates for the formation of widespread public opinion that is favorable to scientific activities. For this to happen, the role of the science communicator becomes truly significant. In this regard, the article also recounts the institutional experience of the Science and Technology Outreach Program (CyT) at the Campomar Foundation, whose initial objective was to train individuals capable of producing scientific information for mass dissemination.
