Abstract

The main goals of our study are, (i) to introduce the most important notes of technological advance, (ii) to characterize the relevant forms, variances and historical trends of technological determinism, and (iii) to critically discuss the most crucial pre-postmodem views of technological pessimism in the last fifty years.

We will conclude that insofar as we do not want to relinquish the vision of a just society, the best possible choice for us is a sort of contextualism far away from both technocratic optimism and extreme technological pessimism.
