Currently, the perspectives of the Triple Helix and the New Production of Knowledge on transformations in the university/government/industry nexus are a common reference in diverse discussions about changes in the relationships between science, society, and the market. This article identifies the geographic, institutional, professional, and disciplinary profiles of the audiences that adhere to each of these perspectives and also highlights the extent of each approach’s impact. The author reviews the key arguments of both orientations, then analyzes their respective methodological and empirical foundations, epistemological underpinnings, and the directions in which each approach has evolved over the last five years.
