Abstract

During the last few years the university -as a center for the production of knowledge- has been revalued owing to the strategic role that science and technology play in the competitivity of firms and countries. In Argentina, this revaluation took place within a context of structural weakness of science and technology, and scholars themselves. The authors are devoted to the study of the Program for Incentives for Researchers-Teachers at National Universities, established in Argentina from 1993 with the purpose of strengthening the structure of the academic profession and research. This paper presents an analysis of some possible impacts of the Program on the activity of the universities, particularly on research, the academic profession and management policies for university science and technology.
