Abstract

The following article suggests that perhaps the greatest problem with scientific outreach lies in the foundation of its legitimacy, which is currently taking on the dangerous profile of a precept: the dissemination of science tends to become institutionalized as part of the scientific system and to reproduce the mechanisms of academic production. This, in turn, creates a mistaken concept of scientific rigor in the outreach process and establishes a feedback and correction loop between the academic system and specialized science journalism. As an example of this precept, and as part of an academic mechanism that leads to the paradox of a growing scientific and technological presence in the media alongside a reduction in public interest and outreach, an institutional scientific outreach experience in Argentina is described. This experience is considered successful by the very community of researchers.
