Abstract

An outline is given of issues debated during three days at a seminar called "Is It Worth Reviving Science in Argentina?" which took place at El Molino bar, in Buenos Aires, in September-October 1994, called by REDES and the local newspaper Página/12 (FUTURO supplement) and sponsored
by the Foro de Sociedades Científicas and Concretar Foundation.
Owing to space reasons, we have been forced to make a difficult selection among papers presented and subsequent discussions* in order to be able to include them in this dossier, though this meant losing part of some debates, undoubtedly valuable. The texts have been edited and are presented
following an order related to specific themes, and not exactly cronologically. Current references have been removed for fear that, if read after some time, they looked anachronistic. Also, the distinctive oral feature of the discourse has been adapted.
Mr. Roberto Bisang's presentation is not included in this dossier because a substantial part of it is published in this same issue, under the title Free Market, State Interventions and Science and Technology Organizations in Argentina: Notes for a Discussion.
Finally, REDES wishes to thank the presentations made by: Roberto Bisang, Osear Cámpoli, Isidoro Cheresky, Renato Dagnino, Miguel de Asúa, Guillermo Dussel, Patricio Garrahan, Rolando Grana, Alberto Kombilht, Rubén Levitus, Mario Mariscotti, Enrique Martínez, Hilda Sabato, J. C. Saguier, Alberto Solari, Ernesto Villanueva, Julio Villar, Francisco von Wuthenau, and, specially, Ricardo Ferrara, who actively participated in the organization of this seminar.
