Abstract

This article suggests a selective reading of the dialogue established in the las 25 years among historians of technology in order, within the framework of the Technology: applied science? debate, to shed light upon the specificity of the knowledge usually handled by engineers. Owing to its importance and its contemporaneity, prominence is given to the discussion that has taken place at the Society for the History of Technology
