Abstract

This text is about the construction of networks of scientific collaboration in the field of nanosciences and nanotechnologies in Mexico as a response to the lack of scientific platforms. It is based on two case studies: the first is a collaborative network that has its scope limited to the academic world, and the second case study is a network that maintains collaborative relationships between institutions of Mexico and Texas, and also promotes research-industry linkages. The methodology of this work is based on a series of visits and interviews with actors of laboratories and research centres (laboratory ethnography), on the use of scientimetric tools (analysis of scientific production based on database records) and on document analysis including institutional reports, research and technology policy documents, texts of popularization of science, among others.
